The Iolaire is a two seat, all composite aircraft desgined to comply with B.C.A.R. Section "S" of the British regulations for microlight group aircraft.

The basic structure is assembled from extruded polystyrene with some plywood components (e.g. the wing mainspar). The foam structure is encapsulated in woven glass cloth and epoxy resin.

The power plant is a BMW 1000cc 'boxer' engine.
An 'all flying' canard with a NACA 0012 symmetrical aerofoil setion is used for maximum efficiency.
Seating is tandem with the passeneger close to the centre of gravity.
Wing section is NACA 4412, tapered and swept c/w anti-vortex tops.
Ailerons are differentialised (1:1.5), large area, small deflection.
